A former Virginia public official was indicted on corruption charges this week, after they had served as the head of an election office, according to authorities.
The office of Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said a grand jury indicted former general registrar of Prince William County Michele White on two felonies and one misdemeanor charge, corrupt conduct as an election official and willful neglect of duty as an election official between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, 2020, and a false statement by an election official between Nov. 3 and Nov. 10, 2020.
However, the indictment did not provide the specific crimes White is accused of.
White served as county registrar from February 2015 until her resignation in April 2021, the Prince William County Times reported. The report claimed that she stepped down after a March 2021 emergency meeting where the Electoral Board discussed her tenure.
In 2020, the county set records for early and absentee ballots cast, which coincided with changes in state laws that expanded access to early and mail-in voting, according to the newspaper.
White is the latest former official or election worker that has been indicted with fraud charges. In June, Michael Myers, a former Democratic representative for Pennsylvania, “admitted to bribing an election judge in Philadelphia, Domenick Demuro, to illegally add votes for certain candidates, including candidates for federal and state offices.”
The Epoch Times reports that Myers and Demuro worked together to support the Democratic Party, receiving payments from the candidates in exchange for manipulating the vote count. Money was sent to Myers who then forwarded a portion of the funds to Demuro.
