A shocking raid made the Federal Bureau of Investigation has led to many calling for the intelligence agency to be dismantled.
Former president Donald Trump said Monday the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida: “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.”
“Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before” he continued before he compared the scenario to Watergate: “What is the difference between this and Watergate, where operatives broke into the Democrat National Committee? Here, in reverse, Democrats broke into the home of the 45th President of the United States.”
Trump did not mention what agents could have been searching for, but Fox News reported the FBI went so far as to break into his “relatively new” safe by using a “safe cracker.”
Two anonymous sources familiar with the investigation told the New York Times that the raid was related to classified documents Trump had taken out of the White House after his presidency.
The Washington Post writes: “For many on the right, of course, the immediate reaction was to amplify Trump’s claims and jockey for attention in the conservative media’s angry universe. Rep. Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.) pledged to dismantle the FBI, for example — conveniently tagging all the conservative voices he hoped might retweet him.”
“Such an assault could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries,” Trump wrote in his statement. “Sadly, America has now become one of those Countries, corrupt at a level not seen before.”
National Review researched various outlets and reported the following:
“Investigators visited Mar-a-Lago in recent months to speak to Trump’s attorneys about material taken from the White House. Trump’s attorneys showed investigators documents, though it’s unclear which ones & how many. Trump was present on property at time of visit,” according to an anonymous source cited by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
Agents scoured the property and looked for documents and boxes without looking at them on the property, according to Fox.
“They were not being judicious about what they took,” an anonymous source told the outlet.
Donald Trump Jr. accused the Department of Justice of being “out of control” and “ripping this country apart” after the raid.
“Biden’s out of control DOJ is ripping this country apart with how they’re openly targeting their political enemies. This is what you see happen in 3rd World Banana Republics!!!” the former president’s son said.
