DOJ Considers Special Counsel for Trump If He Runs in 2024: Report

RESIST THE MAINSTREAM - John Symank - NOV 3, 2022

A new report reveals that Justice Department officials are determining whether or not to appoint a special counsel to oversee two separate investigations into former President Donald Trump should he decide to run again in 2024.

Trump is currently under multiple investigations over his handling of documents and into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results as well as being under scrutiny for other allegations. He has denied any wrongdoing, claiming he is the target of political witch hunts.

Discussions about appointing a special counsel have touched on whether doing so would shield the Justice Department from claims that President Joe Biden’s administration is seeking to undermine his top political rival, sources told CNN.

The Department of Justice, as well as the Biden administration, has faced significant backlash and scrutiny after the August raid on Trump’s Florida home, Mar-a-Lago, conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Many claimed that the Biden administration has been weaponizing the Justice Department for use against its political opponents.

In addition to the raid on Trump’s home, the Department of Justice and FBI have, in recent months, seized the cell phone of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, and the phone of Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), as well as conducting an early morning raid leading to the arrest of a pro-life activist.

The DOJ and FBI have also been accused of conducting a conservative “purge” by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), citing over a dozen whistleblowers from the FBI.

“During the course of this investigation, we have received protected whistleblower disclosures that the FBI is engaging in a ‘purge’ of employees with conservative views by revoking their security clearances and indefinitely suspending these employees,” Jordan wrote in a letter written to FBI executive assistant director of the Human Resources branch Jennifer Moore, noting that “many of the formal notices” for those personnel actions had been signed by her.

Suffice to say, the DOJ’s concern is well-founded, as many conservative and independent voices have grown to distrust the FBI and other government agencies with nearly half of America having an unfavorable view of the FBI, according to a survey by Rasmussen.

Roger Stone, an adviser to former President Donald Trump, has said there is ‘a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI who are using the FBI … as Joe Biden‘s personal Gestapo.’ A majority (53%) of voters now agree with Stone’s statement – up from 46% in December – including 34% who Strongly Agree,” the public opinion polling group wrote.

Trump has heavily teased that he is interested in a third campaign but has not formally declared his intent to pursue one. Should the former president decide to run, he likely will not make an announcement of such until after the midterm elections on November 8.
