A top Republican put jaws on the ground with this announcement about Trump replacing Nancy Pelosi

Control of the House of Representatives is on the ballot in next year’s midterm elections.

GOP strategists, donors, activists and elected officials believe there is a good chance the Republican Party can win back the majority.

Now a top Republican just put jaws on the ground with this announcement about Trump replacing Nancy Pelosi.

In an interview on Fox News Primetime with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, McCarthy made a confusing comment in response to a question about who would be the next Republican Speaker of the House if the GOP wins a majority in the 2022 midterms.

Some conservatives – like former Trump White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon – floated the idea of Republicans choosing Donald Trump to be Speaker of the House.

In response to a question about this possibility, McCarthy appeared to say that he talks to President Trump often and that Trump wants to be Speaker.

“You know, I have talked to President Trump many times,” McCarthy replied. “He tells me he wants to be speaker, and I think he should be president.”

Reporters jumped on this comment believing McCarthy admitted Trump actually expressed interest in the position of Speaker of the House.

McCarthy’s office later clarified that he meant to say that Trump wants McCarthy to be Speaker of the House and McCarthy wants Trump to be President.

There is nothing in the Constitution that requires Donald Trump to serve in the House of Representatives to get elected as Speaker of the House.

But it is also a massive stretch to think Donald Trump would actually want the job of Speaker of the House. Then again, Trump was able to spur the Make America Great Again movement because he defied conventions.
