Some things to pray for in behalf of our country, with an eye to 2 Chron. 7:14
The following are words I include nearly every day, more or less verbatim, in my personal prayers. I’ve given a lot of time and thought to their wording, especially in recent years, so they say precisely what I believe needs to be said at this critical time in the cause of imploring God to save our country—in words heavily influenced by the King James Version of the Bible, which has greatly influenced me.
If you can relate to any part of them, don’t hesitate to appropriate them for your own use. In the least, consider their substance and sincerity.
Father in Heaven,
Please preserve America in liberty upon thy principles—those in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bible.
Please cause the more righteous part of the American people (and those who would like to be) to awake and arise, and stand forth in courage and righteous indignation, and take back our country upon the principles of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bible, through thy help and guidance, and their own righteous efforts as they seek to rely upon thee in all things and to please thee in all they do.
Please lead all who are willing—to come fully unto Christ with their whole hearts, repent of their sins, become truly converted to Christ and His gospel, and order their lives upon that conversion, and in so doing not only save their own souls, but become a strength and a blessing to others.
Father, please intervene and save the United States of America.
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
As part of your personal devotionals, you might occasionally take a little time to appreciate the following exquisite rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer”—sung with disarming sincerity and extraordinary virtuosity by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
Consider this remarkable song (no matter the performer) the ultimate petition for all human needs, taken directly from scripture: Matt. 6:9-13.
(Please also take a moment to read, for context about this brief post, an article I posted at RenewAmerica on Jan. 23, 2017, titled ‘The fervent prayer of the righteous’—just days after President Trump assumed office.)
May God bless America. And may God bless all of us in our efforts to strengthen America by our example.
